The major weather services and research centres of the world use super
computers for running weather prediction models. In the last decade a
lot of studies have been conducted to implement weather models on mult
iprocessors. In this study, the authors have developed and implemented
a global weather model on 17 nodes of a Meiko parallel machine. Meiko
is found to be about 8 times slower than the CRAY-XMP with one CPU in
the case of integration of the model for 10 days and a maximum speedu
p of about 13 has been obtained using 17 processors.
