We measured forces generated by myosin molecules and a single actin fi
lament using an optical trap system. The force per unit length of acti
n filament did not differ significantly between cardiac myosin isoform
s, V-1 and V-3. This indicates that the ability to generate force is e
qual between V-1 and V-3, despite their difference in the unloaded sli
ding velocity past actin.
