Nuclear medicine can make an efficient contribution to the diagnosis a
nd monitoring of renal disease and to the assessment of therapeutic in
terventions in the field of renal tranplantation. The new radio pharma
ceutical MAG 3 labelled with Tc-99m provides renal imaging of quality
in patients with impaired renal function and enables quantitative eval
uation of renal function. We report on radionuclide evaluation, with s
pecial emphasis on the analysis of the vascular component of the scint
igram, in the different clinical situations (i.e. renal failure) that
may compromise the outcome of a successful renal transplant.
