Abstract
Waste plastics were tested upon their suitability as reducing agents i n the blast furnace as a substitute for coal or oil, A system for wast e plastics injection was developed at pilot scale, Meanwhile an indust rial installation with a capacity of 70,000 t/y was built at blast fur nace No. 2 of Stahlwerke Bremen, The first operation results show that an injection level of 5,000 t/month or more than 30 kg/t HM is possib le, The operation is accompanied by monthly measurements of emissions, Especially dioxine and furane emissions were found to be on extremly low levels.
