Abstract
A prototype shower detector composed of two planes of a scintillation hodoscope with a fiber-optic signal readout is presented. The basic de tector characteristics, namely the detection efficiency of minimum ion ization particles, the energy and space resolution, e/pi rejection, an d pi(0)/gamma separation, have been measured and calculated for two de tector positions inside an electromagnetic calorimeter.
