Compositions of carbonitride phases in hot-rolled and normalized 17GS-
grade steel containing 0.12 - 0.35% Al have been studied by X -ray dif
fractometry. Along with aluminum nitrides, a complex carbonitride Al5C
3N was found in the steel. The conditions of carbonitride formation ar
e predetermined by aluminum content in steel, heat-treatment schedule,
and thickness of the rolled plate. The formation of the Al5C3N phase
is accompanied by the stabilization of the octahedral texture of metal
. This decreases the effect of the deterioration of impact toughness w
ith increase in plate thickness.
