Abstract
Non-linear optical properties of molecules with double-conjugated bond s are under consideration. UV and VUV generation by third-order proces ses in four specific media (naphthalene, anthracene, paraterphenyl and benzene) belonging to the beginning of the linear series of polyacene s and polyphenyls are studied. Optimal conversion conditions have been established for various frequency-mixing schemes of a neodymium laser and the efficiency of generation has been estimated. Also studied are the accompanying processes and the limiting factors.
