Abstract
The half-fringe birefringent-coating (HFBC) technique was used to stud y the effects of geometry on the stress distribution around bolted joi nts in the laminates of carbon-fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP). Twelv e unijedirectionally-reinforced specimens were tested, with varying ra tios of edge distance and laminate width to hole diameter. Experimenta l results for refining existing analytical and numerical schemes are p resented. Stress concentration factors for several locations around th e holes are tabulated.
