Abstract
The Raman spectrum of IrF6 in the 100-730 cm(-1) region was observed i n the gas phase using argon laser excitation. New values for the nu(1) (A(1g)), nu(2)(E(g)), nu(5)(F-2g) and probably 2 nu(4)(F-1u) band cent res are given. The O, Q and S branch contours of the nu(2)(E(g)) band are described for the first time. Tbe ground vibrational state populat ion analysis allowed confirmation of the Ir-F bond length found in the literature. No evidence for a Jahn-Teller effect in the X(G(g)') elec tronic state was observed.
