G-MING - A HIGH-PERFORMANCE MULTISERVICE TELECOMMUNICATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE GREATER MANCHESTER EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITY

This paper reports the findings of the G-MING project (Greater Manches ter Inter Network Group), a feasibility study aimed at the provision o f a high performance multi-service telecommunications infrastructure w ithin the Greater Manchester region for the educational community. Spe cifically, the study was to determine the future scope of G-MING, the services it could provide, the technology it should use and the contra ctual basis upon which it could operate in the future. The paper serve s to illustrate the analysis procedure and technical considerations in determining the provision of a metropolitan area network based on ATM technology.
