Abstract
Starting from the breaking soliton equation, we obtain a new integrabl e equation in 2 + 1 dimensions. Though the equation has no exchange sy mmetry of the space variables x and y, the model reduces back to the k nown (1 + 1)-dimensional sine-Gordon (or Liouville) equation.
