A generalized deformed algebra SU(PHI)(2), characterized by a structur
e function PHI, is obtained. The usual SU(2) and SU(q)(2) algebras cor
respond to specific choices of the structure function PHI. The action
of the generators of the algebra on the relevant basis vectors, as wel
l as the eigenvalues of the Casimir operator, are easily obtained. Pos
sible applications in improving phenomenological models are discussed.
