The formation of the Ni5Al3 phase in L1(0) martensite of Ni65Al35 mate
rial can be delayed by using slow quenching rates after the homogenisa
tion of the material. This is of potential interest for the use of Ni-
Al as a high temperature shape memory alloy. Based on the present resu
lts indicating a strong influence of the quenching rate on the orderin
g sequence in this material, some difficulties in previous interpretat
ions can be clarified.
