The rapidly solidified Ti-Pd-Ni were made by the melt spinning method
and the ribbon shaped specimens were obtained. The dimensions of these
specimens were 30 mu m in thickness and 2 mm in width. The surface st
ructure along the direction of the length of specimens was observed by
optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. By the results o
f X-ray and electron diffraction, it was confirmed that these specimen
s had good crystallinity and preferred orientation. These specimens we
re transformed from the martensite phase (B19) to the parent phase (B2
) by heating and from B2 to B19 by cooling. The transformation feature
s and crystal structures were same as those of the specimen made by th
e ordinary method. The transformation temperatures decreased by rapid
solidification.
