C. Vassilopoulos et al., CONCEPTION OF AN IONIZING-RADIATION DETECTION SCHEME BASED ON CONTROLLED LIGHT-INDUCED ANNEALING OF SILICA FIBERS, IEE proceedings. Part J, Optoelectronics, 140(4), 1993, pp. 267-272
The current work proposes the use of optical fibres as sensing element
s for dose rate measurement of ionising radiation based on controlled
light induced annealing or photobleaching. It shows that, under steady
-state irradiation, the propagation characteristics of the fibre can b
e modulated by variations in the intensity of the photobleaching signa
l. Since the effected modulation was found to depend both on the inten
sity of the incident radiation and on the optical power density variat
ion of the annealing signal, a suitable scheme can be devised to measu
re the dose rate of the incident radiation in an all-fibre ionising ra
diation detector.
