Abstract
In the 1990s a variety of external and internal demands have converged that require batch plants to manage drawings, data and text as a busi ness asset. This paper examines how one set of these demands, OSHA and EPA requirements, have rendered traditional plant information managem ent procedures obsolete. Next, it introduces the elements of Electroni c Document Management Systems (EDMSs): integrated technologies that ha ve matured enough to satisfy comprehensive requirements for facility i nformation management. Finally, it overviews a methodology for plannin g, cost-justifying and implementing a modern, plant-wide EDMS.
