I. Benabdennbi et al., DIFFERENTIATION OF FEMALES IN SERGENTOMYIA-SENSU-STRICTO (DIPTERA, PSYCHODIDAE) USING SCANNING ELECTRON-MICROSCOPY OF PHARYNGEAL ARMATURES, Journal of medical entomology, 33(2), 1996, pp. 265-268
Scanning electron microscopy of external ornamentation and internal ar
mature of the pharynx was used to identify females of Sergentomyia sen
su stricto. Five species from the eastern Mediterranean basin were com
pared; S. minuta clearly was separated from species of the fallax-grou
p. Within the fallax-group, S. fallax was distinguished readily by its
heart-shaped pharynx and the difference in armature between the dorsa
l and lateral plates.
