The terminology of juxta-dural ring aneurysms of the internal carotid
artery is reviewed historically with special reference to those aneury
sms protruding ventrally. The first description of such cases was made
by Drake as exceptional examples of carotid-ophthalmic aneurysms. Yas
argil and Fox termed them ventral (inferior) internal carotid artery a
neurysms. The term (ventral) paraclinoid aneurysm was coined by Nutik.
We introduced the concept of carotid cave aneurysms, The name superio
r hypophyseal artery aneurysm was proposed by Day. Other related termi
