Abstract
We present the design and performance of a magnetic circuit suitable f or magnetizing solid samples in the measurements of soft x-ray emissio n dichroism excited by synchrotron radiation. The system allows a vari ety of samples to be magnetized and satisfies the rather stringent geo metrical constraints due to the need for minimizing the effect of phot on self-absorption by the sample. The magnetic circuit is ultrahigh va cuum compatible, can reach about 2800 G, and allows fine adjustment of sample position. (C) 1996 American Institute of Physics.
