Abstract
Secondary arc extinction characteristics on UHV(1000kV) transmission l ines by High Speed Grounding Switches (HSGS) were investigated using t he high power test facilities of CRIEPI. The extinction time of second ary arcs by HSGS are compared with the auto-extinction tim e. The char acteristics of arcs initiated in a large gap (6m) were also measured.
