A severely growth-retarded fetus was monitored longitudinally for haem
odynamic profiles and automated cardiotocogram analysis in the 30 days
preceding death. Initially a pattern of hypoxia and moderately deteri
orated cardiac function was detected. Later on, signs of progressive h
eart failure developed, in conjunction with deteriorating fetal heart
rate patterns.
