A short account is given of the liquid scintillation coincidence syste
m developed at OMH for the standardization of pure-beta emitting and e
lectron-capture radionuclides. Our experience of direct activity conce
ntration measurements is outlined for C-14 (coincidence and summing me
thods tested by activity measurement of Co-60); Fe-55 (efficiency trac
er technique using Mn-54 as tracer); H-3 (efficiency tracer technique
using Mn-54 as tracer). The uncertainty components are discussed in de
tail, and can be reduced by undertaking several more precise correctio
ns.
