Novel organosilicon dendrimers peripherally functionalized with aromat
ic rings, Si[(CH2)(3)Si(CH3)(2)C6H5](4) (G1Ph(1)) and Si[(CH2>Si-3(CH3
)((CH2)(3)Si(CH3)(2)C6H5)(2)](4) (G2Ph(1)), have been constructed empl
oying a divergent synthetic approach. The pi-coordinating ability of t
hese surface located arene rings towards transition metals has allowed
the synthesis of a new family of organometallic dendritic macromolecu
les 1-3, containing eta(6)-coordinated Cr(CO)(3) moieties at the perip
hery of organosilicon dendritic cores.
