Abstract
The possibility of addressing and probing individual chains of a macro molecule by near-held methods-of interest for micromechanics and molec ular electronics-can be envisaged as a result of the findings presente d here. It is demonstrated that individual shape-persistent synthetic macromolecules can be imaged by transmission electron microscopy withi n monolayers and that hairy rod macromolecules can be isolated in a ma trix of a different material.
