The southern unit of the Mont Peyroux nappe (meridional part of the Mo
ntagne Noire) is marked by a pre-Devonian stratigraphical non-sequence
. Petrographic analysis of facies corresponding to the basal Early Dev
onian restart of sedimentation shows, in comparison with the underlyin
g Arenigian sedimentation, a significant change of the source area. It
is characterized in particular, by the presence of debris derived fro
m volcanic and metamorphic rocks respectively. Part of the Early Devon
ian clastic supply could have resulted from the erosion of post-Arenig
ian terrains emergent towards the end of Silurian times.
