This paper describes the implications of long-term climate change obje
ctives (such as stabilization of CO2 concentrations and of radiative f
orcing) for maximum allowable emissions of greenhouse gases and priori
ties for reduction strategies. It also briefly indicates some rough ta
rget values for technological developments which are based on these lo
ng-term objectives.
