We present a model absorption potential for the calculation of cross s
ections for the scattering of positrons from various atomic targets. O
ur model, which is free of any adjustable parameters, is analogous to
the quasifree scattering model which has been used by other investigat
ors for the scattering of electrons from rare gases. As a test of the
proposed model we use it to calculate total and differential cross sec
tions for positrons scattered from various rare gas targets.
