Abstract
A series of fulvalene ylides was synthesised. Only weak aromatic effec ts were found across the ylide bond. Their chemistry includes the firs t example of a dichotomy in phosphonium salt/ylide hydrolysis, interes ting dynamic nmrs of the adducts with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate and a new synthesis of azulenes.
