Abstract
The application of finite element analysis (FEA) to the design of radi al aircraft tyres is shown to be an effective and efficient tool which can be used for conducting tyre and tyre wheel design studies. This p aper describes the specific conditions under which FEA is applied by M ichelin to the radial aircraft tyre, and presents an example of its ap plication to the analysis of the tyre and wheel rim contact pressures. Model definition, calculated tyre displacement and rim contact pressu re distributions are included. Validation of the FEA prediction agains t experimental results is demonstrated for a main landing gear tyre.
