This paper addresses the problem of collective-mode dispersion in the
strongly coupled two-dimensional (2D) classical electron liquid in a p
erpendicular dc magnetic field. The system is modeled as a 2D one-comp
onent plasma sandwiched between two dielectric materials epsilon1 and
epsilon2. For the strong-coupling regime GAMMABAR=2e2/[(epsilon1+epsil
on2)ak(B)T]>>1 (a is the 2D Wigner-Seitz radius), our analysis-which i
s carried out in the recently established quasilocalized-charge approx
imation [G. Kalman and K. I. Golden, Phys. Rev. A 41, 5516 (1990)] wit
h the input of-the equilibrium pair-correlation function -indicates (i
) that both magnetoplasmon and magnetoshear mode oscillations can be e
xcited and (ii) that their dispersion is profoundly affected by the co
mbined presence of strong particle correlations and the external magne
tic field. The calculations cover the entire wave-number domain; typic
al dispersion curves are displayed for GAMMABAR = 22, 50, and 120. We
make contact with well-established magnetoplasmon and magnetophonon di
spersion calculations for the 2D Wigner crystal and with the magnetopl
asmon dispersion of the uncorrelated 2D electron gas.
