Abstract
High threshold drift velocities (exceeding the Fermi velocity) require d in semiconductor systems to generate current-driven plasma instabili ties are the primary obstacle in their experimental verification. We d emonstrate the feasibility of a current-driven plasma instability in m odulated lower-dimensional systems at much lower driving electric fiel ds. We also discuss possible experimental systems where this instabili ty could be observed.
