Abstract
The intramolecular hydrogen-atom abstraction in the lowest excited sin glet and triplet states of 1-methylanthraquinone yields 9-hydroxy-1,10 -anthraquinone-1-methide. The lowest excited tripler state at room tem perature also abstracts a hydrogen atom from ethanol yielding 1-methyl -9,10-dihydroxy-anthracene.
