Ionic exchange with Ba2+(Sr2+) on polycrystalline K+-beta''-ferrite st
abilized by Cd2+, at 700-800-degrees-C, results in a phase transition
to a ''nonstoichiometric'' Ba (Sr)-hexaferrite. XRD and Mossbauer spec
troscopy shows that the exchange derivatives present a defected M-type
structure. After annealing at 1000-degrees-C an intergrowth, in a app
roximately 4:1 ratio, of Ba(Sr)-hexaferrite and CdFe2O4 is observed.
