Abstract
Recently, DBS (Direct Broadcasting Satellite) services whose up-link f requency is 17 GHz band are really flourishing in the USA, Europe and Asian-Pacific countries. NEC has developed a new klystron for E/S (Ear th Station) in DBS system with the operating frequency of 17.3 similar to 18.1 GHz and the output power of 1.5 kW. The klystron has been des igned based on the latest NEC's design technique using with computer s imulation, and new material of neodymium (Nd-Fe-B) magnet was adopted. As the result, the klystron has achieved good RF characteristics as w ell as small size and light weight.
