Jr. Liu et al., CROSS-SECTION FOR NON-RUTHERFORD BACKSCATTERING OF ALPHA ON BE, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section B, Beam interactions with materials and atoms, 108(3), 1996, pp. 247-250
Be is an important element in fusion and fission reactor technology an
d in X-ray optical components, Non-Rutherford backscattering is desira
ble when the stoichiometry and depth profile of Be and other heavy ele
ments have to be measured simultaneously. Cross sections for theta(lab
) = 165 degrees of He-ion backscattering on Be-9 in the 0.88-5.3 MeV e
nergy range were measured, Self-supported films of 15 mu g/cm(2) Be we
re used as targets, The measured resonance at 5.05 MeV shows a cross s
ection 47 times as large as the Rutherford cross section. The relative
cross sections are presented in graphic and tabular forms with a typi
cal +/- 2.7% uncertainty.
