AIDS has a devastating impact on the social support networks of those
most closely involved with the person with AIDS (PWA). This qualitativ
e study of the social support networks of confidants to PWAs reports t
he findings of intensive, semistructured interviews with 11 confidants
. Numerous changes were observed in the confidants' supportive resourc
es, network structure, and functioning. Implications for social work p
ractice are discussed.
