Abstract
Esterification of 2,2'-bipyridine-5,5'- and 4,4'-dicarboxylic acids wi th 4-alkoxyphenols leads to new mesomorphic bipyridine esters which ar e subsequently complexed with various metals. The synthesis and proper ties of these compounds are discussed.
