Hz. Zhuang et al., SURFACE-COMPOSITION OF FLUORINATED POLY(AMIDE URETHANE) BLOCK-COPOLYMERS BY ELECTRON-SPECTROSCOPY FOR CHEMICAL-ANALYSIS, Macromolecules, 29(5), 1996, pp. 1660-1665
The surface composition and near-surface depth profiles of annealed fi
lms of poly(amide urethane) block copolymers were measured using angle
-dependent electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA). Segrega
tion of the fluorinated polyamide soft segment to the surface was dete
cted and quantified. The poly(amide urethane)s were made from amine-te
rminated polyamides with N-alkylated fluorinated side chains as well a
s fluorinated backbones, methylenebis(cyclohexandiyl diisocyanate) (H-
12-MDI), and butanediol.(1) The resulting copolymers display extremely
low surface energy. A deconvolution program was utilized to obtain co
mposition-depth profiles and to confirm phase segregation.
