Abstract
A formulation of the generalized Hurwitz problem is given. We show tha t the solution of this problem is equivalent to exhibiting a matrix ex tending Yiu's intercalate matrix consistently signed. We give examples of explicit solutions for such a generalized Hurwitz problem in low d imensions.
