Abstract
I enjoyed reading Anthony Ryle's (1995) perspectives on our field of p sychotherapy research. His views are acutely perceptive, maybe because he is a more ''peripheral actor'' than I am. I am more immersed than he is and from that vantage point I may imagine I see a more positive effect of research on practice than he does. But I did not always see this.
