Hydrolysis of cyanuric acid, melamine, melem, atrazine and melamine-fo
rmaldehyde resin was found to be catalyzed by an Al2O3 catalyst. The r
eactions occur irreversibly with cleavage of the s-triazine ring betwe
en 240 and 450 degrees C. The s-triazine-ring is hydrolyzed to ammonia
and carbon dioxide, and the substituted groups to the corresponding m
olecules by addition of hydrogen.
