Abstract
An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of order of repo rt, identification method, redundant color coding, and stimulus locati on under dual-task conditions on multidimensional stimulus-identificat ion performance. Analysis showed that order of report and identificati on method did affect speed and accuracy of identification. Subjects re acted faster and more accurately if this order of reporting stimulus-d imension values was appropriate. Physical identification mas also fast er and more accurate than identification of meaning, but there was no effect for redundant color coding, stimulus location, and difficulty o f the dual task on identification. The implications of the results for design of visual displays were discussed.
