The problems of the rearrangement of genome architecture during specia
tion are considered. The history of the problem of the role of systemi
c mutations in evolution is analyzed. The authors own phenomenological
data on the spatial rearrangement of the chromosomal apparatus of ger
mline tissue (that is regarded as systemic mutations) during the phylo
geny of a number of dipterous insects are systematized. A concept on t
he essence of systemic mutations and their crucial role in saltatory t
ransformation of genomes in the course of species evolution is advance
