The thermal stability of an alumina support, which is promoted by lant
hanum and cerium ions, in supported systems containing copper oxide, c
hromium oxide, and mixed copper-chromium oxide is studied by the x-ray
diffraction method. Both lanthanum and cerium decrease the mineralizi
ng influence of supported active components. In order to improve the t
hermal stability of the alumina support, a stabilizing ion introduced
into Al2O3 should not only impede dissolution of an active component i
n the support (thus lowering the mineralization effect), but also form
stable high-temperature compounds with the support, which give no alp
ha-Al2O3 upon their destruction.
