Turonian series in the Dieulefit area were studied both sedimentologic
ally and micropaleontologically. The calcareous Turonian formations re
present the transition from an open shelf, through a storm-dominated s
horeface into a foreshore sequence of limestones, with a great develop
ment of quasi-planar laminated beds. Sigmoidal dunes are interbedded w
ith the previous structures. The qualitative and quantitative evolutio
n of benthonic and planktonic foraminifera population parameters provi
des precise details about paleoenvironmental conditions. Facies and mi
crofacies data permit us to propose a general deposit facies zonation
from foreshore to offshore.
