The geological context of the large mammals from Le Riege a locality k
nown since the XIXth century, is now defined. The pyroclastic deposits
from meridional maar's ring, and the internal lacustrine sediments, h
ave recently given, at many points, new palaeontological remains. The
discovery of the back part of an adult Bison skull showing the start o
f the two horn-cores seems to conform with the definition of the sub-g
enus Eobison, which, in agreement with datings other of volcanoes in t
he region, indicates a Lower Pleistocene age.
