Abstract
The gltX gene encoding glutamyl-tRNA synthetase from Methanobacterium thermoautotrophicum has been cloned, sequenced, and identified. The ge ne is located immediately downstream of idsA in an operon containing a t least three additional ORFs. The deduced protein sequence from gltX contains conserved regions (HIGH and KMSKS) indicative of a class I am inoacyl-tRNA synthetase.
