This article argues that Sweden's Social Democratic party is an unreli
able ally for feminists. It suggests that some of the most formidable
obstacles to feminism in particular and progressive politics in genera
l were constructed from within and not outside the party. To support t
his assertion the author carefully examines their record on women's em
ployment, battery, and sexual assault. She concludes with an overview
of additional policies which further demonstrate their abandonment of
egalitarian principles.
