The cross sections for inclusive pi(0) production in the reactions p C --> pi(0) + X and p + Cu --> pi(0) + X at an incident momentum of 4
.5 GeV/c are measured as functions of the variables x(F) and p(perpend
icular to)(2). From the ratio of the cross sections for pi(0) producti
on on carbon and copper numclei in the kinematic regions 0.62 less tha
n or equal to x(F) less than or equal to 0.98 and 0.05 less than or eq
ual to p(perpendicular to)(2) less than or equal to 0.26 (GeV/c)(2), i
t is found that the exponent n in the dependence Ed(3) sigma/d(3)p sim
ilar to A(C,Cu)(n) is n = 0.40 +/- 0.02.
