Abstract
The spontaneous development of spiral waves in the Belousov-Zhabotinsk y reaction in the wake of a simple reaction diffusion front is reporte d in a system for which the redox catalyst is immobilised on an ion-ex change membrane. The behaviour is explained in terms of the concept of vulnerability of the medium.
